Linda Tyler Brown
Director of Children & Youth
Linda Tyler Brown comes to Dixboro United Methodist Church with over 30 years of ministry in many different ways in many different places. After receiving a BA in Political Science from Albion College, God led Linda away from her original goal of studying law to Calvin University where she completed a MA in Christian Studies. While in Grand Rapids, her career in church ministry began, by serving part time as a youth pastor. From there Linda went to Arkansas through the US-2 program which is a United Methodist opportunity for young adults to serve 2 years in the United States. Two years as a Church & Community worker doing program ministries for 8 small United Methodist churches in rural Arkansas was followed by an internship in Washington D.C. with Bread for the World, a Christian Citizens Group working to affect U.S. public policy on global hunger issues. After these 5 years of ministry mostly with youth and children God called her to something entirely different with 18 months as Director of Larkin Senior Center in Houston, TX.
Back home to Michigan in 1988, Linda came to Ann Arbor as Director of Youth and Children’s Ministry at the First United Methodist Church. Life events and changes over the next 32 years included marrying Tom Brown,( a fun and interesting guy who currently is teaching science at Dearborn High School), the birth of daughter Lat (an awesome young adult now working on her Masters Degree at UM Graduate School of Information) lots of volunteer and professional opportunities with youth and children at several local churches as well as being a Girl Scout Leader and a “High School theater Mom.”
Four summers working at Cedar Point, several years doing Graphic Design, and selling homemade bread at Cobblestone Farmer’s Market complete the list of things she's done which may or may not be interesting to people.
Most recently Linda comes to Dixboro after 4.75 years with Saline First Presbyterian Church as Director of Youth Ministry. Being able to encourage people to live as we are called to live by Jesus Christ is a great blessing to Linda. To help others, especially young people, experience how precious each of us are to the One who Created us is a sacred calling and brings joy in the job for Linda.
It is my deepest desire for us each to know and respond to Jesus Christ who says “Just as I have loved you, ….. love one another “ John 13:34
